Lagoon & Trifid Nebulas
Catalog: M8/M20
This image captures two of the summer sky’s most beautiful nebulae in a single field: the Lagoon Nebula and the Trifid Nebula. Both lie in the rich star clouds of Sagittarius, a part of the Milky Way packed with gas, dust, and star-forming activity. The Lagoon Nebula glows with broad, luminous structure and dark lanes of dust, while the Trifid stands out with its distinctive divided appearance, where bright emission and dark dust combine to give it its name. Together, they create a scene full of contrast, texture, and color, showing just how rich and active this region of our galaxy really is. Framing both of them in one image gives a wider look at the beauty of the Milky Way’s star-forming heart.
